fractals

Wikipedia: A fractal is generally "a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole," a property called self-similarity. The term was coined by Benoît Mandelbrot in 1975 and was derived from the Latin fractus meaning "broken" or "fractured."
images above are part of Bikram Mittra's work. click on the link above to check out his website. Bikram studied Exhibition Design at the National Institute of Design, India. he then went on to do an MA in Design Products at the Royal College of Art, London.

Fractals are a fantastic resource to grow patterns and cover a wide surface area. the popular snowflake patterns that we have all seen at some time are wonderful examples of the fractals in nature.
me thinks its time i used all the info at hand and got down to some serious surface generation what say?

An Indian Summer

an indian summer was my first crush in blogland. i wonder why i waited so long to post about this blog that i love so much. its all about india and then some. great source for indian and asian design and is a riot of colour. Bhavna (the blogger behind it all) has a keen eye for design and has a wonderful indian bazaar where one can buy lots from india and asia. the coolest was when she introduced an NIDian in her bazaar...i felt closer to her then...even more than knowing that she is also from gurgaon (so close to where i am) :) her bazaar makes me want to start a label of "me own" and then sell "me stuff" through her blog online!
p.s.: i don't personally know bhavna...but i wish i did!

lace and more

oooh when will i have a house with a garden that will have a lace protecting it? i love this fence and maybe if i have more space i'll have a tennis net with lace too! bumped into this picture at DESIGN FOR MANKIND and here is the link http://www.designformankind.com/search?updated-max=2008-07-07T11%3A00%3A00-07%3A00&max-results=30

masala chai

masala chai reminds me so much of the NID main gate and the endless number of chai, bhajiya, company and ideas i have enjoyed there...it was a place where casual conceptualisation took place for most of the regulars, be it in form of jokes, smart ass comments or in the sketchbooks of the die hard. its so good to be transported back to the main gate for an odd cuppa masala chai every now and then...
why i am thinking of masala chai is because its a blog i got introduced to today. i was completely knocked out by the content of this blog...you'll find smashing desi art, design and profiles right here (http://masalachaionline.blogspot.com/) so check it out for yourself right now!
